Invest in children and families through our operating fund

We believe in the magic of childhood and focus on this vital stage of our lives because it is the foundation from which our curiosity, independence and kindness will grow. We strive to keep tuition accessible for families and set tuition rates far below the true cost of educating a child. Tuition covers about 80 percent of our operating costs; we fundraise the rest to keep tuition affordable and still provide an exceptional learning experience and nurturing environment for our students.

We invite you to join the many individuals and families who support Little Star to ensure that children of the Methow Valley have the opportunity for a healthy and joyful early childhood education. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for investing in Methow Valley children and their families.

Sources of Income

Rayma Hayes Financial Aid Fund

Named after our beloved founder, this fund directly supports children and families who need financial assistance. Each year, our community comes together to raise funds specifically so that a family’s personal income is not a barrier to a quality, dynamic and inspiring early childhood education. Little Star dedicates a significant portion of our budget to direct financial aid for families. In 2019, over 30 percent of our students received financial assistance.

Financial aid awards range from 10 percent to 100 percent of tuition, depending on a family’s need and financial capacity. During the 2018-2019 school year, Little Star will provide over $90,000 in financial assistance. Little Star also accepts DSHS payments for those families who qualify.

Planned giving

Thank you for considering a planned gift to Little Star School. By doing so, you will leave a legacy of joyful learning and discovery for all children of the Methow Valley.

Gifts can be designated as you see fit: to help grow Little Star’s financial aid fund, to grow our endowment, for education materials or to support teachers with professional development. Legacy gifts can take many forms such as a charitable bequest in your will, a donation of real estate or other assets, leveraging of your retirement plan or life insurance policy, annuities or remainder trusts. We advise that you work with an experienced financial advisor or estate planning attorney to develop a planned gift that is most appropriate for you and your family.

If you are interested in making a planned gift to Little Star, please contact Brad Halm, Little Star’s executive director, at bradi@littlestarschool.org or 509-996-2801.

I used to think that college was the most important decision regarding education. After watching the transformation of my kids and their peers at Little Star, I now believe that a great early childhood education even more dramatically shapes the trajectory of life.
