Kindergarten

5 TO 6 YEARS

At Little Star, the kindergarten year marks the culmination of the three-year early childhood experience. Everything that children have learned up to this point falls into place during the kindergarten year.

Throughout their early childhood education at Little Star, children have been involved in activities across multiple disciplines, including practical life, language, music, letters, numbers, science, art, geography, culture and social interaction. During the kinder year, children are developmentally ready to take these skills to a more sophisticated level. They gain a wider breadth of knowledge and deeper understanding of how to apply this knowledge to enhance their own intellectual pursuits. This mastery, along with their position as elders in the classroom, solidifies the children’s self-esteem and develops their skills to be great leaders.

Furthermore, Little Star’s small class size and additional hours of learning in the afternoon, provide children with ample opportunity to work closely with their teachers. This creates an environment for children to write and read, explore bigger world concepts, conduct experiments, participate in dramatic plays and gracefully negotiate the complex social dynamics of childhood. Our peace education also supports healthy behavior management and personal accountability. When the children leave Little Star at the end of their kindergarten year, they have incredible enthusiasm for learning, confidence in their own ability to ask questions and think for themselves, and the tools to navigate whatever comes next.

All of our early childhood and kindergarten teachers are background checked and trained in STARS Childcare Basics, Positive Discipline and Montessori theory and practice. They are certified in first aid and CPR, and they participate in continuing education on an annual basis.
